Professor Kendall Moore of the Harrington School’s Department of Journalism and Associate Professor Amelia Moore of the Marine Affairs Department in CELS received a National Science Foundation grant to produce a film on the history of western science in the U.S.

Their project will result in a feature-length documentary, titled Decolonizing Science?, that centers on the perspectives of Black/African American, Indigenous/Native, and Latino/a/x, that interrogates western science as a key component of the European colonial enterprise in the United States.

The film’s ultimate goal is to generate new ideas and support the ongoing critiques of the ways in which western, Enlightenment Era science has erased, re-narrativized, absorbed, and marginalized, diverse knowledges and people, and to think about better ways to include, center, acknowledge, and prioritize, those and their ways of knowing.
