Biography

Norbert Mundorf (Ph.D. Indiana University) is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he has taught since 1987. With his background in Communication he is involved in various interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach initiatives to promote Sustainable Transportation, Resilience and Health. Research interests include media, global and online communication, as well as sustainability and behavior change. He has worked with the URI Transportation Center, Cancer Prevention Research Center, and the Coastal Institute.

With the University of Göttingen, Fraunhofer ISI and Yangzhou University he has collaborated on issues related to Virtual Mobility and Sustainable Transportation, including the impact of transportation choices on health and active living. He is the editor of the Special Issue on Sustainable Transportation and Health of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH, 2017).

He has been involved in projects related to health promotion (smoking, alcohol, DUI), sustainability and behavior, acceptance of innovative renewable materials, and preparedness for the impacts of Climate Change. At URI he is the coordinator of the Sustainability Minor. Dr. Mundorf has actively promoted intercultural communication and discussion of global sustainability through a global online debate network with universities in Germany (Braunschweig), Russia (St. Petersburg) and China (SPU, Yangzhou U., Peking U., Beihang U.)
