Biography

Alan S. King ‘84 is the president and chief executive officer of Workplace Options, a Raleigh, NC-based employee well-being company providing emotional, physical, and practical support to more than 75 million people around the world. In his 20 years at the Company, Alan has guided its growth from 9 employees in 1 location to more than 1000 employees in 15 locations in 11 countries. 

Prior to Workplace Options, Alan held senior leadership positions in Ceridian Corporation, Work|Family Directions, and Central Maine Power Company.

Alan is recognized for his contributions in promoting global mental health awareness and for his efforts to advance an equal rights agenda for LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities in the United States and around the world.  He is active in many social justice organizations, including J-Street and serves as board chair of the Tyler Clementi Foundation, a national anti-bullying organization.

Alan earned his BA in Government and East Asian Studies from Colby College and his MLS from the University of Rhode Island.  He is married with two grown children and resides in Raleigh, NC with his husband Ben.
