Elizabeth D. Futas Scholarship

Dr. Futas was Director of the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS) from January 1986 until her untimely death in February 1995. An energetic and intelligent dedication to socially responsible library services informed her many interests; she worked, researched and taught in the areas of women’s studies, reference and adult services, collection development, professional growth and ethics, social issues and cultural diversity. Dr. Futas was a transforming presence in the School and in a field she described as “the last of the noble professions.” She was a winner of the Beta Phi Mu Award, and is also memorialized by the American Library’s “Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award.”
