Careers

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, college graduates with a degree in journalism possess the skills necessary for work not just in newsrooms but in a variety of arenas including public relations and promotion, marketing and advertising, business and corporate communication, political strategy, government policy, and non-profit organizational communication.

Over the years, URI Journalism graduates have worked at many prestigious news outlets including including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, CNN and CBS News. In the news industry, graduates work in community newspapers, radio and TV stations throughout New England and other parts of the country.

Some graduates have become public relations consultants with PR firms in Rhode Island and elsewhere. Graduates have found communication positions in many realms of business including banking, retail and more; others have become successful entrepreneurs in several fields. Many go on from initial reporting careers to become successful attorneys, marketing and advertising executives, school teachers, political and government policy advisers, and public officials.
