The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)

President Alexandra Baccari, Advisor Regina A. Bell, MA, and Vice President Hailey Cowan at the ceremony announcing the national accreditation to PRSSA, April, 2014.

The Public Relations Student Society of America is a student-run campus organization that educates students in the professional fields of public relations, marketing, journalism and communications.  PRSSA members are afforded the opportunity to participate in numerous professional development experiences from attending regional/national conferences to participating in robust conversations in PRSSA’s blog:  Progressions. In addition, numerous scholarship opportunities are available to PRSSA members.

The academic year 2013-2014 was a remarkable year for the members of the URI chapter of PRSSA.  With support from the Rhode Island State Chapter of PRSA and our corporate sponsor, Steve Zenofsky from FM Global, the URI chapter received its national accreditation as a Public Relations Student Society of America. The dedication and unwavering determination of Alexandra Baccari and Hailey Cowan (2013-2014 President and Vice President, respectively) propelled what was an idea of PRSSA status at URI to become a reality.  As a result of their determination and the support from the Rhode Island PRSA, numerous opportunities now await the Public Relations students at URI.

As the advisor for PRSSA, I look forward to the positive educational opportunities afforded to our PRSSA members.  I am most appreciative of the opportunity to be part of this enriching professional development opportunity.
