Congratulations! You have been accepted to the Harrington School of Communications & Media at the University of Rhode Island. Graduates of the Harrington School of Communication & Media are well-prepared for citizenship, careers and life in a rapidly changing global economy. On behalf of my colleagues, I am very happy to hear you are interested in the Public Relations Program.
When accepted to the Public Relations Program, students immerse themselves in an array of courses rich in writing, analysis and critical thinking. From small-group learning opportunities to traditional lectures, you will explore the ever-changing dynamics of this robust career path. For a complete list courses, please visit here. In addition to the required courses, students participate in electives, such as Social Media Strategies for the Public Relations Professional; Introduction to Event Management or Strategic Media Communication. With a multidisciplinary approach, the Public Relations Program includes courses in journalism, writing and communication studies creating a varied opportunity for real-world learning and collaboration.
The learning environment is not constrained within the classroom. Our students embrace experiential learning opportunities to illuminate theories and concepts presented in the classroom in real-world applications. From organizing a “Pink Out” to producing a video for a local food pantry, our Public Relations students use the power of information and communication to make a difference in the world. Our Public Relations students continue to amaze me with their significant contributions as interns to notable organizations, such as MTV, the Boston Science Museum, Yankee Stadium and the Attorney General’s Office. Endless opportunities await our interns.
As your advisor, I look forward to collaborating with you to create a meaningful experience for you as a student at the Harrington School of Communication & Media.
