Advising

Advising

Advising of Freshmen Journalism majors is conducted at University College in Roosevelt Hall prior to their admission into the College of Arts & Sciences. Department faculty keep a schedule of advising appointment times at University College each semester, and freshmen and other majors can make appointments with them online. All freshmen are instructed on how to do this during Summer Orientation.

Once freshmen have completed initial required courses, they are admitted into the Department and the College of Arts & Sciences. At that time they are assigned a Journalism faculty adviser with whom they meet each semester to plan their course of studies, choose classes and obtain information about internships, study abroad opportunities and other matters. Students are welcome to make additional appointments with their adviser at any time or to visit during faculty office hours.

See the Resources page to link to a Journalism Major’s Worksheet and download the sheet so you can keep track of your academic progress. Always bring the Major’s Worksheet with you to advising meetings so you and your faculty adviser can review it and make plans for you to complete your requirements.
