Founded in 1960, URI’s Journalism program is one of the few degree granting journalism programs in southeastern New England and was, for many years, the only journalism degree granting program in Rhode Island. Our graduates hold high-level editorial positions at The Boston Globe, The Providence Journal, CBS News and CNN, as well as local and regional media and public relations agencies nationwide. Using their background in research and writing, other graduates pursue non-media careers in law, politics and public relations.

Among our distinguished alumni are international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and CNN correspondent and news anchor John King. Many of our recent graduates are among the young journalists who are cutting new paths in the world of Internet reporting and entrepreneurship.
