Welcome to the Department of Communication Studies. As chair of Communication Studies I am very proud of all that we offer students. Our program in Communication Studies provides both breadth and depth in a diversity of areas of specialization that can be tailored to meet the variety of careers and professional aspirations that our students seek. I encourage you to explore that diversity by visiting our course offerings.
In the Department of Communication Studies we believe in going beyond traditional teaching techniques. Small interactive classes of 30 students or fewer allow our faculty of national and regional reputation to get to know you personally, and to provide you with the advising, support and guidance you need based on your individual goals and interests.
While we pride ourselves on the quality of our tradition in teaching and research, we also pride ourselves on providing students with hands-on opportunities to engage in creative and innovative projects, including new and emerging trends in mediated communication.
Imagine being able to earn college credits not only by sitting in a classroom, but also through the experiential learning opportunities you’ll have in your choice of internship placements. Our students have earned academic credit working with major ad agencies, PR firms, law firms, fortune 500 corporations, and virtually every local and national TV network, including the “The Letterman Show” and “The Conan O’Brien Show.”
Whether you want to produce commercials, be a newscaster, or enter the fields of law, business, or education, Communication Studies can get you there. A degree in communication prepares you with the knowledge, abilities, and experiences you need to succeed!
