Biography

Clay is a native Rhode Islander who graduated with degrees in Communications and Sports Media from the University of Rhode Island in 2022. He was first introduced to television production during his time at the University and was part of the original group of students to get URI basketball games on ESPN+.

After completing his degrees, he was hired by the local news station WJAR and, in just a 4-month span, was promoted to the position of Newscast Director and was present for the launch of the station’s first 4 pm newscast. During his time at WJAR he helped to direct and cover stories such as the 2022 Rhode Island gubernatorial election debate, the 2023 Rhode Island’s 1st congressional district special election debate, and the coronation of King Charles III. Most recently, he covered and directed stories concerning the I-195 Washington Bridge closure.

Clay also performed freelance work in sports television productions, primarily serving as a replay operator for URI football and basketball. Additionally, he has had experience as an audio operator and camera operator for collegiate and high school sporting events across New England.

Clay is excited to be working alongside the sports broadcasting team while also managing the sports broadcasting internship program. He is happy to return to URI and be part of the growing sports broadcasting program!
