Betty J. Cotter is an adjunct instructor in the Writing & Rhetoric and Journalism departments at URI. She holds an MFA in fiction from Vermont College and a BA in journalism from Keene (N.H.) State College. She is the author of the novels The Winters and Roberta’s Woods and was named the 2006 fiction fellow by the R.I. State Council on the Arts. Her book reviews appear regularly in The Providence Journal, and her work has been published by The Day newspaper of New London, Conn., the Ocean State Review, the Connotation Press, and Bibliophilos. She also teaches English at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, Conn. Prior to her teaching career, she worked in newspapers for 30 years, including 20 years as an editor.
