Tony Balko is an artist and educator from Smithton, Pennsylvania, USA.  Using a variety of mediums and technologies, his practice reflects a deep-seated desire to escape the basement and shred.  Tony’s work has exhibited internationally at venues and festivals including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Speed Museum (Louisville), Roadburn Festival (Netherlands), and the Ann Arbor Film Festival.  He has had solo/duo exhibitions at The Nightingale (Chicago), Slow Gallery (Chicago), Pittsburgh Filmmakers and Dreamland Film Center (Louisville).

A two-time Pennsylvania Council on the Arts fellowship recipient, his work has appeared on INSIDE/WITHIN, Bad at Sports,, and  Tony frequently collaborates with a variety of musicians, and has performed live with Zombi, Majeure and Oneida, while producing music videos for Wax Fang, Oneida and Sharon Needles.

Tony received his B.A. in Film Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, and his M.F.A. in Film, Animation and New Genres from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  He is a long-time volunteer at the ACRE artist residency in the AV/Tech Department.
