Ashley Kuhar, BA ’14, MBA’18, was one of 10 URI alumni to receive the 10 Under 10 Award last month. Kuhar is the senior communications specialist at FM Global.

The University of Rhode Island and the Young Alumni Council recognized several outstanding alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years, excelled in their careers and given back to the university. Kuhar and the other award recipients also exemplified the four core values of the university: creativity and scholarship; diversity, fairness and respect; engaged learning and civic involvement; and intellectual and ethical leadership.

“Ashley deserves this award,” Adam Roth, director of the Harrington School of Communication and Media and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said. “She is actively involved in the Harrington School’s Advisory Board, mentors Harrington students, and graciously participates in several opportunities annually to interact with students and share her educational and professional experience. She has had a profound impact on our students since she graduated.”

During her undergraduate career at URI, Kuhar was an outstanding student with a double major in communication studies and public relations and a business minor. Upon graduation, she began working at FM Global as the production coordinator. In just two short years, she was promoted to communication specialist and, then again, to her current position as senior communications specialist.

Kuhar said she was honored to receive the award, but she was quick to note that she genuinely enjoys helping students.

“I love coming back to URI and speaking with current students to learn about what they are doing and what they need,” Kuhar said. “I am so happy and grateful to have the opportunity to give back.”
