Supporting RI Economic Development

Film/Media professor Michelle LeBrun worked with current Harrington School students and recent alums to create five short videos which are featured in the new GreaterRI.com website, created by the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. Videos feature a variety of small and large companies in Rhode Island doing work in the fields of brain science, marine technology, medical technology, food science, and consumer product design.

“Students got the opportunity to learn a lot about all of the exciting businesses in Rhode Island that are at the forefront of innovation,” said LeBrun, who heads the media production company, Harken Productions, which¬†created the videos. URI alum Laurie White, President of the Providence Chamber of Commerce and a friend of the Harrington School, suggested the project as a learning opportunity for students.

“We’re proud of our talented faculty and students who contributed videos to this remarkable website,” said Renee Hobbs, Professor and Founding Director of the Harrington School of Communication and Media, who explained that ¬†this project is an example of the kind of win-win collaboration that accomplishes two interrelated goals. She said, “It supports the state’s economic development efforts while inspiring the new generation of students to develop careers in Greater Rhode Island.”
