From March 7 – 16, 2014, Professor Keith Brown of the Film/Media program will be leading a group of Harrington School students to the world-famous SXSW (South By Southwest) Film Festival!
“With its mix of outsider indies and smartly chosen studio films, South by Southwest has carved out a unique space in the festival landscape, with a bigger presence than smaller regional fests yet still apart from the industry-driven markets at the film festivals in Cannes, Toronto or even Sundance. “
URI students can enroll in this special course and travel to Austin, Texas for this amazing film festival. Students will get direct access to filmmakers from around the globe through their exposure to film screenings, Q&A sessions, interactive panels, trade shows and equipment demonstrations, and one-on-one mentor sessions with professionals working within the industry. Students will attend festival events for 9 days during the week-long film festival. After registration, students will get a subscription to SXSW World Magazine and access to an email listserve, which will announce screenings and industry panelists. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those developing their own creative work and exploring careers in the film industry.
